Bio
Kayla is a classically trained mezzo-soprano and composer of Classical, Contemporary, and Jewish music, currently living in Jerusalem. She is currently in Cantorial school at the Hebrew Union College Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music.
Kayla graduated with a BA in voice from the University of Connecticut, where she studied under bass-baritone Rod Nelman. At UConn she performed in opera theatre, Page to Stage Productions, Collegium Musicum, UConn Concert Choir, and UConntabile. During the pandemic she began producing virtual choirs for synagogues and churches in Connecticut. Most recently she arranged a choral version of "Tree of Life" by Jewish Bluegrass band, Nefesh Mountain. She has performed at Gates of Prayer in Metarie, LA, with the Touro Synagogue Choir and band, Fourth Wave Treble Choir, and New Orleans Vocal Arts. Kayla has experience singing Choral music, Opera, Musical Theatre, Jewish liturgy, folk and country.

Kayla started to write music using Jewish liturgy following the shooting at the Pittsburg Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018 and continues to write music that seeks to move us into taking action. Since 2018, Kayla has been involved with Jewish Rock Radio, including participation in Songleader Bootcamp and Hava Nashira, and mentoring under Joe Buchanan, Cantor Abbie Strauss, Eliana Light and Jacob Spike Kraus. She hopes to use her music as a method of healing and a tool for social action.
